The US special envoy to Ukraine Kurt Volker believes that Ukraine should extend the law on the special status of Donbass, which ends in October.

The Verkhovna Rada in October of 2017 was extended for a year the law on the special status of Donbass. It says that the special status for the region will come into force after the fulfillment of certain conditions, in particular the withdrawal of «illegal armed groups» from these territories.

«I don’t see any harm in extending the validity of the law,» said Walker in an interview with «Voice of America».

The settlement of the situation in the Donbass is discussed, including during meetings in Minsk the contact group, which from September 2014 adopted three documents regulating the steps to de-escalate the conflict. However, after the armistice agreements between the parties to the conflict continue shooting.
