The Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on international Affairs Konstantin Kosachev called the conclusions of the American colleagues presented in «Crimean Declaration», the mindless cliches and radical error.
The U.S. state Department published a «Crimean Declaration,» in which Secretary of state Mike Pompeo reiterated that Washington does not recognize Crimea as part of Russia and did not lift sanctions imposed over the reunification of the Peninsula with Russia. The aim of the Declaration is a formal codification of U.S. policy towards Crimea.
Kosachev recalled the events of 1940, when the United States has not recognized the incorporation into the Soviet Union the Baltic republics.
«The American strategists think (or want to believe) that these plots are identical and that strategy come true one day, historically, is suitable for all occasions. Thoughtless clichés. A radical mistake,» Kosachev wrote in Facebook.
According to the Senator, in the case of the Baltic republics of the decision of the Soviet authorities relied on the support of a small group of local politicians and is not supported by the majority of the population.
«Crimea — opposite story. No military force, no coercion. Return to Russia strongly and unequivocally supported by the overwhelming majority of the population, opponents in a vanishingly small minority. And it’s not fake, a La the Soviet propaganda is an absolute reality,» — said Kosachev.
He noted that the American side is trying to «oppose the will of the people being denied justice.» «Doomed to failure, historical and political,» — said the politician.
