Matvienko praised the law about the native language

Federation Council speaker Valentina Matvienko believes that the law on the home language would not harm the learning of national languages in the republics, the senators will consider the document on July 28.

Earlier, the state Duma adopted in the third final reading the law on the study of native languages. The document stipulates that the Federal state educational standards of preschool, primary General and basic General education provide an opportunity to receive education in native language from among the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation, study of the state languages of the republics of the Russian Federation, native language from among the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation, including the Russian language as the native language. The first Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on education Lilia Gumerova reported RIA Novosti that the law will be considered at a meeting of the house on July 28.

«It’s good that everyone is discussing (this) bill. It is necessary to closely monitor law enforcement practices that are sensitive for our multinational Federal state law,» — said Matvienko at a briefing on Thursday.

In her opinion, when the law all attentive read, the excitement will be. «It is important to avoid excesses in the other direction, it is necessary to work with parents, with children», — said the speaker.

Matvienko drew attention to the fact that the law introduces the principle of voluntariness of language learning, no harm «the study of national languages, the legislation will cause».

The document clarifies that under now the right of citizens of the Russian Federation to study their native language from among the languages of the peoples of the Russian Federation within the limits of the possibilities offered by the education system, in the manner prescribed by the education law applies, in particular, and to the Russian language as the native language.

In addition, the law establishes that the free choice of language education is carried out according to the statements of parents (legal representatives) of students at admission (transfer) for training on educational programs of preschool education having the state accreditation of educational programs of primary General and basic General education.
