Vice-President Mike Pence threatened to impose economic sanctions against Turkey, if not we will take immediate steps for the release of American pastor Andrew Branson, who is charged in this country in the autumn of 2016.

«If Turkey does not take immediate measures to release the innocent person of faith and not send him home, the United States will impose serious economic sanctions against Turkey until pastor Andrew Branson will not be released,» said Pence on Thursday, speaking at a conference on religious freedom in Washington.

He said that «the US administration had worked tirelessly for his release» and, though welcomes the translation of the pastor from prison under house arrest, but believes it is insufficient. «This is a good first step, but not enough!» — told Vice-the President of the United States.

«President trump and I will fight for his freedom, as long as he will not return to the United States… Although he’s not in jail, he’s still not free!» — pointed Pens.

A court in the Turkish province of Izmir ruled on Wednesday to move under house arrest of an American pastor Andrew Brunson, whom Ankara suspects of complicity in a coup attempt in 2016, the newspaper reported Hurriyet Daily News.

The decision of the court of 25 July Brunson also forbidden to leave the borders of Turkey. A week ago, the same court rejected the petition of protection of the pastor’s release. The next hearing in the case of Branson is scheduled for October 12.

The American pastor is held by the Turkish authorities from October 2016 on charges of aiding the organization of gulenists FETÖ deemed to be terrorist in Turkey, and also in supporting the country banned the Kurdistan workers ‘ party (PKK). According to the newspaper, Branson has denied the allegations, calling them «shameful and disgusting».
