Most Russians believe that scientists hide from people the truth, the survey showed

The majority of Russians (59%) believe that scientists hide from the public the truth about the world, while the views of citizens about, you know the truth for yourself in the world of science, being equally divided, the survey showed the all-Russia centre of studying of public opinion (VTSIOM).

As evidenced by the results of surveys conducted by VCIOM during the period from 2010 to 2017, the majority of Russians trust the scientists – the level of confidence in the profession ranged from 66% to 79%. But despite the credibility of science and the good reputation of the profession, «many Russians share the anti-scientific views of scientists and suspects in concealing the truth from the society,» social scientists have found.

«Today most of our fellow citizens (59%) think that scientists are hiding the truth from us. The most incredulous in this matter are people who have not completed high school (77%). While among people with higher education this figure below 45%», — stated in the materials research, which is available to RIA Novosti.

More than a quarter (28%) of respondents believe that scientists tell people the truth, and 13% found it difficult to Express their point of view on this issue. However, opinions of respondents on whether the scientists themselves know the truth, were divided: 42% said Yes and 41% say that scientists are sincerely wrong and not know the truth.

Head of the center for social and economic research Nisio Academy under the President of the Russian Federation Oleg chernozub did not rule out that there has been a real reduction in the authority of science in society.

«Partly to blame politicians and entrepreneurs due to political reasons inflating hype of pseudo-data, but partly — and scientists themselves, in the pursuit of grants and «scientometric indicators» from time to time publish is not very reliable and sometimes and openly falsified the data», — the expert believes.

A nationwide survey «polls-Sputnik» was held on may 29-30 2018, among two thousand respondents over 18 years. Survey method — telephone interviews, the statistical error does not exceed 2.2%. In 2010-2015 was carried out housing surveys.
