State Secretary, Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Grigory Karasin congratulated the servicemen of the joint peacekeeping forces (SMS) with the 26th anniversary of entering the first in Transnistria Russian peacekeepers and the beginning of the peacekeeping operation on the Dniester.

Greetings on Saturday morning during the rally at the memorial arch «blessed are the peacemakers» at the entrance to Bender read out the charge d’affaires of Russia in Moldova, Roman Romanov.

«For all the years, your mission confirmed that the current format of the peacekeeping operation is the most effective, and was duly recognized by the international community as one of the most successful and viable,» — said in greeting.

Karasin believes that developed effective principles of interaction of joint peacekeeping forces and the experience gained is largely due to the strengthening of regional pan-European stability.

«Despite the recent increase in attempts to discredit the existing mechanisms for ensuring stability in the region, it is important to remember that it is the presence of joint peacekeeping forces with the participation of the contingents of Russia, Moldova and Pridnestrovie objectively creates the necessary conditions for a political dialogue between the parties to the conflict and development of mutually acceptable settlement of the Transnistrian conflict», — said Deputy Minister of foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.

Currently, the peacekeeping operation in Transnistria carried out a joint peacekeeping force, which includes 402 Russian servicemen, 492 Transnistrian, 355 Moldovan and ten military observers from Ukraine. Peacemakers bear service on 15 stationary posts and checkpoints, which are placed on the key areas of a security zone.

Transnistria, 60% of inhabitants are Russians and Ukrainians sought to secede from Moldova even before the collapse of the USSR, fearing that Moldova will join Romania. In 1992, after a failed attempt by the Moldovan authorities the power to solve the problem, Transnistria has become virtually beyond the control of Chisinau’s territory.
