Moldova did not participate in the celebration of the 26th anniversary of the peacekeeping operation

Moldovan peacekeeping troops, members of the joint peacekeeping forces, did not participate in passing Saturday in Transnistria festive events dedicated to the 26th anniversary of the deployment of peacekeeping forces of the Russian Federation, the correspondent of RIA Novosti.

On the Grand building to the parade ground in the military camp of Russian peacekeepers in Bender arrived only representatives of military contingents of the Russian Federation and Transnistria. The celebrations do not take part in the military observers of Ukraine, the delegation of Moldova to the joint control Commission (JCC is a collective governing body of peacekeeping operations) and representatives of the OSCE mission in Moldova.

On Thursday held meeting on the delegation of Moldova is not denied but also not confirmed the opportunity to participate in the celebrations. The JCC is composed of the delegations of Russia, Moldova and Transnistria. As observers in its work participate representatives of Ukraine and OSCE mission in Moldova. The co-chairs of the JCC (heads of delegations) make decisions by consensus.

Currently, the peacekeeping operation in Transnistria carried out a joint peacekeeping force, which includes 402 Russian servicemen, 492 Transnistrian, 355 Moldovan and ten military observers from Ukraine. Peacemakers bear service on 15 stationary posts and checkpoints, which are placed on the key areas of a security zone.

Transnistria, 60% of inhabitants are Russians and Ukrainians sought to secede from Moldova even before the collapse of the USSR, fearing that Moldova will join Romania. In 1992, after a failed attempt by the Moldovan authorities the power to solve the problem, Transnistria has become virtually beyond the control of Chisinau’s territory.
