Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill with the 1030-th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus’, noting the influence of Orthodox Christianity on the historical path of Russia, reported on the website of the government of the Russian Federation.

«The adoption of Christianity in many respects determined the historical path of our people. Orthodoxy had a great influence on the development of statehood and cultural life. Painting, architecture, literature has long been inseparable from religious ideas, and the spread of the Cyrillic alphabet opened the way to enlightenment» — said in a telegram sent Medvedev to Patriarch.

The Prime Minister also said that in all times, Christianity remained a spiritual pillar and allowed to overcome the most difficult trials that befell Russia.

«We appreciate the consolidating role of the Russian Orthodox Church, which teaches kindness, mercy and love. Cherishes the old traditions and helping people to find the answers to most difficult questions. This is its great merit to society,» — said Medvedev.
