«I guarantee the authorities will not intervene in purely internal ecclesiastical matters. But I emphasize, but will not let others to do this… From the first days of my presidency I set a goal to create a single national Orthodox Church and the recognition of this Church by the Ecumenical Patriarch,» said Poroshenko during his address on the occasion of events to 1030 anniversary of the baptism of Rus, were broadcast Ukrainian TV channels.

He expressed hope that the decision on the Tomos (decree) of autocephaly will be fair. «The Tomos of autocephaly of the UOC will complete affirmation of the independence and autonomy of our state, strengthen religious freedom, inter-religious peace. It will strengthen the rights and freedoms of citizens… the Scripture says that we cannot know the times and seasons. But I believe that the final decision of the universal to be fair to Ukraine», — said Poroshenko.

The President thanked Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople for the message with a reminder that «Ukraine is a canonical territory of the ROC». «And for the message he gave us yesterday, which declared this long-awaited goal as «the provision of the Ukrainian Church autocephaly», he added. The representative of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church opposes the autocephaly and the unity of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine, said that the message of Bartholomew is nothing new.

The head of the non-canonical Orthodox Church in Ukraine, Filaret (Denisenko) hopes that Ukraine will receive a decree of autocephaly in the near future. «We are grateful to the Ecumenical Patriarch that he finally realized that it was time to grant the Tomos of the Ukrainian Church of its autocephaly, and we hope that soon we will have the Tomos,» — said Filaret during his address on the occasion of events to 1030 anniversary of the Baptism of Rus.
