The Russian meteorological service is one of the strongest in the world, said in an interview with RIA Novosti Deputy Director General of the world meteorological organization Elena Manaenkova.

«Weather is a complex phenomenon. Of course, there are mistakes. I believe that the Russian meteorological service is one of the strongest. Unfortunately, to predict the weather 100% impossible. But as climate change increases the frequency and probability of hazardous events, in my opinion, better to listen to the forecast, than to ignore it,» she said.

According to Manaenkova, systems of weather prediction are constantly being improved. At the moment, about 20 countries are engaged in a global weather simulation, and the quality of forecasts is improving every day.

«Now the forecast for the week – this is normal for all countries. But the forecasts for the month while there are discrepancies. When we talk about years, the forecast is more about probabilities», she added.

Deputy Director of WMO stressed that the Russian meteorological service are very well financed and has a good scientific base, as well as the meteorological service of great Britain, Tokyo or Switzerland. They also help to exchange through the WMO weather information with those countries in which meteorological services are in a very weak condition.

«For example, on tropical cyclones, we have specialized centers, which are responsible for specific pools. And all the countries in the basin are get information from this centre. For example, Indonesia and the Philippines receive information from Tokyo,» — said Manaenkova.
