Political conflicts between people will vanish, and the spiritual and cultural unity of Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian people as the heirs of the «Kievan font of baptism» will remain, according to the Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk.

«The event of the baptism of Russia in itself is a very deep and historically a strong factor in the spiritual unity of our peoples. If we abandon attempts to use this holiday in private political purposes, then we are all Russians, Belarusians, and Ukrainians – will draw it,» said Metropolitan Hilarion in his interview to RIA Novosti on the occasion of the 1030-th anniversary of the baptism of Rus.

According to him, 1030 years have passed since the historical event, is a «giant compared to a human life time», which «contains in itself the entire available history of the three States».

«The total experience» our life together just out of proportion to the life of a modern political agenda. Political conflicts will ever go of the past and our spiritual and cultural unity will remain – as long as we remain Christians as long as we remember the font of Baptism, which gave birth to us», — said the Metropolitan.

Metropolitan Hilarion acknowledged that this event is not well preserved historical data as to the baptism of Rus had not developed written culture, or literature. Many residents were illiterate.

The baptism of Rus, said Metropolitan Hilarion, was the beginning of her education in the monasteries began to chronicle, there was a education and appeared in literature.

«But it all evolved later. Therefore, it is hardly possible to accurately determine the day of the baptism of the Dnieper Kiev. The idea of it is restored only by the fragmentary references to the later Slavic and partly Byzantine sources. Therefore, for the celebration of the Baptism and was elected to the day of memory of Holy Prince Vladimir, to whom we owe this historic event», — said the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church.
