The speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko hopes that the Russian initiative on the recognition of the victory over Nazism in the Second world war an UNESCO world heritage site will be supported by the international community.

«I hope that is also the fate of the proposals of the Federation Council on the recognition of the victory over Nazism in world war II the world heritage of mankind. We have already proposed a number of parliaments to address the UN, UNESCO and other reputable organizations support this initiative,» she said at a meeting of the upper house.

The speaker recalled that in may this year, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution in support of the initiatives of the inter-Parliamentary Union approval of June 30, the International day of parliamentarism and the preparation of the world conference on interreligious and inter-ethnic dialogue.

«These initiatives have come a long way from our chamber to the UN. International parliamentary diplomacy has celebrated a significant victory,» — said Matvienko.
