Russian schoolchildren have won at the International physics Olympiad in Portugal four gold medals and one silver medal, reported the press service of the Ministry of education of Russia.

«The twenty-eighth of July in the city of Lisbon (Portugal. — Approx. ed.) summed up the 49-th International physics Olympiad (International Physics Olympiad — IPhO). The competition was attended by teams of students from 90 countries. The team of Russia won at the Olympics with four gold medals and one silver medal,» — said in a release.

It is noted that Russia was represented by five students: Grigoriy Bobkov, Stanislav Chapaev, Alexei Rykov, Vyacheslav Kuznetsov from Moscow and Zachary Yakovlev from St. Petersburg.

«The results of our children, the Olympians are not only important from a competitive position. I’m sure that the participation and achievements of the Russian team should be seen as a necessary condition for a country which is a large-scale high-tech projects in both the academic and industrial spheres. These projects involved teams of scientists and engineers in the field of physics of the highest level. For the formation of such groups, training environment is required. The Ministry added that the head of the Russian team at the Olympics was made by the Professor of Moscow Institute of physics and technology (MIPT) Artyom Voronov.
