The Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Zakir Garalov said that the rioters in Ganja, where previously there was an armed attack on the head of the city and during the clashes were killed two police officers, seized weapons.

Previously, the government of Azerbaijan reported that the head of Executive power of Ganja, the second largest city of the Republic, Elmar Veliyev and his bodyguard Gazim Abazov suffered as a result of an armed attack. A suspect in committing a crime a 35-year-old citizen of Russia Yunis Safarov was detained by police at the scene.

«The participants of the Ganja events, it eliminated the provision to law enforcement officials armed resistance during the operation, were seized a lot of weapons,» said Garalov on Monday at operative meeting.

He noted that the eliminated individuals, as well as in the places of residence of those arrested were found and seized as material evidences machines of different brands, pistols, ammunition, grenades and melee weapons.

Previously it was a criminal case, law enforcement agencies have classified the incident as a «premeditated terrorist act with the aim of creating the country’s excitement, chaos and panic and, ultimately, the organization of a violent seizure of power.» Investigation took under personal control the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
