Presidential election in Mali was held successfully almost 100% of the polling stations, despite a series of attacks, said the government.

On election day in different parts of the country there have been attacks on polling stations. According to Mali Actu, on Sunday, unknown persons set fire to the parcels in the cities of Timbuktu and Niono. In addition, the municipality of Aglc in the East of Mali came under a mortar attack.

Despite a number of incidents, the government of Mali on Monday congratulated the citizens and all stakeholders on the successful conclusion of the elections.

«The vote for various reasons did not take place on 716 polling stations that make up the 3.11% of the total. On the other 22325 sites or 96,89% of the vote in General was successful and in satisfactory conditions,» — said in a communique.

The government is also thanked for the professionalism of observers, civilian administrators, defence forces and security, the movement for peace and reunification, as well as allied forces. The Prime Minister urged citizens and politicians to remain calm «in order to preserve the peace of friendship.»

The Russian foreign Ministry said that Moscow welcomes the holding of presidential elections in Mali, noting their importance for the stabilization of the situation in this country and in the whole region of the Sahel.
