The ex-President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has filed a lawsuit against the General Prosecutor’s office of Ukraine and Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko on the protection of honor, dignity and business reputation, according to the registry of the court cases posted on the portal «the Judiciary of Ukraine».

As reported on the website «the Judiciary of Ukraine», the claim will be considered in Pechersky district court of Kiev.

Plaintiff listed Viktor Yanukovych, the defendants – the Prosecutor General’s office of Ukraine and Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko. The hearing is scheduled at 10: 00 (same as GMT) on 13 September 2018.

After a coup in Ukraine in February 2014, the new authorities want to prosecute Yanukovych and many former bureaucrats. In relation to the former Ukrainian authorities are being investigated criminal cases, in particular, about the theft of public funds, financial frauds, land-grabbing and abuse of office.

A case of treason — one of many that the General Prosecutor’s office investigates against the former head of state, the trial on it is from may 4, 2017.

As stated by Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko, the essence of the charges is that Yanukovych, «while in Russia in March 2014, signed a letter addressed to the President and urged him «to enter Ukraine and the occupation troops».

The ex-President of Ukraine rejected the accusations, claiming that he had not sent letters to the Russian authorities with such appeals. Moscow also said that a letter with similar content was received.

The judicial investigation in the case is a special procedure of conviction, which in 2014 were introduced in Ukraine to prosecute Yanukovych and his entourage. It allows to investigate criminal cases and to judge in absentia suspected of committing serious crimes if they are hiding from the investigation abroad. The prosecution intends to ask the court punishment for Yanukovych — life imprisonment.

According to the lawyers, Yanukovych wants to personally take part in court, but could not come, fearing for his safety. The defenders claim that they have evidence that the ex-President in Ukraine, a real risk.
