New European Union sanctions against Russian companies associated with the bridge across the Kerch Strait, are an attempt of political and economic pressure on Russia, but have no meaning, because the necessary decisions on joining of Crimea to the Russian Federation are adopted, said the first Deputy Chairman of the Duma Committee on international Affairs Dmitry Novikov.

Previously, the European Council made to the list of sanctions in connection with the construction of a bridge across the Kerch Strait six Russian companies — «SGM-Bridge», JSC «WAD», shipbuilding plant «Zaliv», PJSC «Mostotrest», the Institute «Giprostroymost», «SGM – SGM group». In the information center «Crimean bridge» said that the introduction of EU sanctions will not affect the progress of the projects. As stated by the head of Department of European integration, MGIMO (U) mid of Russia, RIAC expert Nikolay Kaveshnikov, the new EU sanctions are «smallest possible» Brussels effect, they will not have a significant impact on the Russian economy.

«This decision means a demonstration of support to the Ukrainian authorities, the desire not to recognize the Crimea part of the Russian Federation, is attempting political and economic pressure on Russia, which in this case has no meaning because Crimea is part of Russian Federation, all the necessary decisions on this subject taken is the choice of the Crimeans, and the Crimean Peninsula residents do not think of myself otherwise than as part of Russia,» — said RIA Novosti Novikov.

As noted by the MP, it must be assumed that sanctions will be imposed for the long term. «The sanctions seriously and permanently, it is necessary to proceed from this. If we think otherwise, we deceive ourselves,» — said Novikov.

A bridge to the Crimea from the Krasnodar region — the longest in Russia, its length is 19 kilometers. The beginning of the movement of vehicles originally planned for December 2018, but the work was completed ahead of schedule. Russian President Vladimir Putin opened the automobile part of the bridge across the Kerch Strait may 15, the movement of vehicles running on 16 may. The opening movement of trains on the railway part of the bridge is scheduled for December 2019.

Crimea became a Russian region after held there in March 2014 referendum in which 96.77% of voters of the Republic of Crimea and 95.6% of residents of Sevastopol voted for joining Russian Federation. Crimean authorities held a referendum after a coup in Ukraine in February 2014. The Russian leadership has repeatedly stated that the inhabitants of Crimea democratically in full compliance with international law and the UN Charter voted for reunification with Russia. According to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the Crimea issue «is closed permanently.»
