Japan considers it important to develop dialogue with Russia in the field of security, including taking into account the situation around North Korea, told RIA Novosti on Tuesday, the Japanese foreign Ministry on the eve of talks in Moscow, the Ministers of foreign Affairs and defence of the two countries in the format of «2+2».

«It is important to continue the dialogue in the security field with our neighbor Russia. On the Japanese-Russian meeting «2+2″ we want to have constructive discussion from the point of view of mutual understanding between Japan and Russia focusing on regional security, including trends around North Korea,» Ministry of foreign Affairs of Japan.

However, before the start of the negotiations in the foreign Ministry has refused to speak about any results of the meeting, and about whether to continue Ministerial talks between Russia and Japan in the format of «2+2».

As previously reported by the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, the talks of Russian Ministers, Sergei Lavrov and Sergei Shoigu with Japanese colleagues, Taro Kono and Itsunori Onodera «it is planned to discuss confidence-building measures between Russia and Japan in the field of security, including bilateral exchanges in the field of defence».

According to the foreign Ministry of the Russian Federation, in addition to talks in multilateral format is expected to hold separate talks of the foreign Ministers and defense with their Japanese partners.

The current talks will be held amid concerns Moscow plans for Tokyo to host the Aegis Ashore missile defense systems in light of the changing situation around North Korea, which has shown a willingness to halt nuclear and missile programmes and engaged in a dialogue about this with the United States and South Korea.
