9-11 the construction of new terminals in the EU under the liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States may be impractical due to low load on the existing terminals, says a senior research fellow at the Oxford Institute for energy studies Thierry Bros.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and the President of the United States Donald trump on 25 July reported that the European Union wants to increase imports of LNG from the US to diversify their energy supply. The EU is ready to invest in construction of new LNG receiving terminals, if the prices are competitive. Trump on Monday said that the US and EU are discussing 9-11 construction of new LNG terminals in Europe under American LNG at the expense of the EU.

According to the Bros, currently 24 LNG terminal in Europe, work with the loading of about one-quarter of its capacity that allows me to take and increase the amount of imported fuel. In addition, the EU has its own plans to build new LNG terminals in Croatia, Greece, Cyprus and Ireland.

«Gas demand in Europe will continue to rise because we need to move away from coal. However, local gas production is declining rapidly, so the EU will import more and more gas», — said the RIA Novosti expert.

The question whether the construction of new terminals for LNG from the US will depend on the price of construction, most likely private companies, and the price of gas at the exit, he said.

In addition, the more expensive cost of LNG from the U.S. will have to compete with less expensive «blue fuel» supplied to Europe via pipelines from Russia, stressed the Bros.
