The President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, said he has enough evidence of US funding of the violence in Nicaragua.

«We are faced with a powerful enemy who invaded with guns in Nicaragua several times, the United States, and they continue to interfere in the Affairs of Nicaragua. Of course, Yes (Nicaragua there is evidence of such funding — ed.). Through these accounts, the United States, the United States Agency for international development (USAID) and other American organizations … they announce about the millions allocated to Nicaragua to democracy, as they say,» said Ortega in an interview with Euronews.

According to the President, then the allocated money is spent on other needs. «To destabilize the country, provoke violence and encourage armed gang who commit crimes in 2007, when we again took power,» said Ortega.

USAID on July 20 announced an additional $ 1.5 million to support democracy and human rights in Nicaragua. Assistance will support civil society organizations, human rights defenders, independent media. The money will be allocated in addition to the approximately $ 10 million, which had previously been approved for Nicaragua by the United States Congress within the budget of USAID.

Anti-government protests in Nicaragua are from April after the government-proposed reforms, which included increasing the amount of contributions employers and workers in the social insurance funds. President Ortega has already abolished it, but mass protests have not stopped. Ortega refuses to hold early elections, as demanded by the opposition, and calls the ongoing conspiracy against the country. The death toll during the protests in Nicaragua reached 448 people.
