The vagueness of the norms of the world trade organization (WTO) allows the state party to justify almost any trade restrictions, said in an interview with RIA Novosti expert on economic sanctions, a partner at the Law offices of EMP Mergen of Garaev.

«The key WTO agreements contain a special exception allowing States to impose restrictions «for security reasons». The vagueness of this provision theoretically allows the state party of the WTO to justify any trade restrictions», — said Dorai RIA Novosti.

According to Goraeva, for all time of existence of the WTO «any dispute contesting the imposition of economic sanctions was not considered on the merits.»

«Thus, despite the illegality from the international legal point of view imposed against Russia economic sanctions are a factor in international fact, which the Russians will have to deal with for many years», — said the expert.

Dorev leads a team of lawyers representing the interests of companies of the state Corporation «rostec» in litigation with German concern Siemens, including the supply of turbines in the Crimea.
