In the Kazakh city of Aktau held a meeting of leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran, which resulted in the signing of the historic regional document — the Convention on the status of the Caspian sea, worked on it for 22 years.

«The inaugural Caspian economic forum in 2019, I am convinced, will confirm the readiness of all the Caspian countries to direct efforts in this direction. I propose to hold this forum in Turkmenistan,» Berdimuhamedov said, speaking at the V summit of the «Caspian five».

The President said that, in his opinion, such a forum should be a «permanent platform for multilateral economic dialogue.» «This forum, in our opinion, should be done on a regular basis, alternately in each of the Caspian States,» — he added.
