Convention on Caspian sea banned the activities that are detrimental to biodiversity

The Convention on the Caspian sea prohibits activities which damage the biological diversity of the Caspian sea, the parties shall be liable for damages, according to a published on the Kremlin website document.

In the Kazakh city of Aktau hosted a meeting of leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran, the results of which signed a historic regional document — the Convention on the status of the Caspian sea, worked on it for 22 years.

«Prohibits activities that damage the biodiversity of the Caspian sea. Party in accordance with the norms of international law are responsible for the damage caused to the ecological system of the Caspian sea», — stated in the text of the Convention.

Also, as noted in the document, the parties individually or jointly take all necessary measures and cooperate in the conservation of biological diversity, the protection, restoration, sustainable and rational use of biological resources of the Caspian sea, to prevent, reduce and control pollution of the Caspian sea from any source.
