Japan has created the platelets grown from the blood cells of the patient, and therefore not causing a rejection reaction. Scientists are preparing to conduct an operation on the man, told RIA Novosti Hiroyuki vadgama of the Center for applied research iPS cells at Kyoto University (CiRA), in the depths of which these studies are conducted.

In the future this will help to people suffering from various blood diseases, including cancer.

«From the patient’s blood, namely leucocytes, created iPS cells (artificial multifunctional cell, the basis of which it is theoretically possible to grow any type of cell in the human body – ed.). Then grow the cell line megakaryocytes (giant cells of the bone marrow that form platelets – ed.). Megakaryocytes in normal conditions do not grow, but we have ensured that they have the ability to share. After a few steps of them are created by platelets, which are embedded in the patient’s blood by transfusion,» — said the representative of the Institute, whose Director, Shinya Yamanaka was awarded the Nobel prize in 2012 for the creation of artificial multifunctional iPS cells – artificial multifunctional cells.

Basically the problem with the transplantation of donor platelets is that the patient suffering from, for example, aplastic anemia, when it slows or stops the growth of cells in the blood, perceives them as a foreign body. Starts a reaction of rejection, which makes it unnecessary blood transfusion to the patient.

Wadham explained that research on the creation of platelets from blood cells of the patient, and then experiments on mice took several years. Now scientists are convinced of the safety of such transfusions, and has applied to the Ministry of health with a request to allow them to conduct clinical human trials.

«Our goal is one year to conduct clinical trials during the year. But it’s just a goal, stressed Vadgama. But you have to understand that first the health Ministry must give permission. We then have to explain everything to the patient and to obtain his consent. It is difficult to predict how it may take time.»

Experimental transfusion will be carried out to just one person, who is suffering from aplastic anemia, and at the same time his body rejects the donor cells.

«This is an important point – we are announcing now accepting patients. While we are talking about the transfusion of one person. But we continue research on the creation of platelets to allow blood transfusion to a wide range of patients. But this is the future», — said the representative of the Institute.

At the same time, the question of how possibly in the future the use of these results for the treatment of other blood diseases, including cancer, the representative of the Institute CiRA said, research is carried out «in order to make it possible».

In 2006 Professor, Kyoto University 44-year-old Shinya Yamanaka for the first time in the world to get stem cell from ordinary human skin cells. Cells were called induced pluripotent (multifunctional) stem cells-iPS. In 2012, Yamanaka was awarded the Nobel prize. The discovery caused an explosion of research in the field of medicine recovery. Scientists have learned from them to grow heart muscle cells, intestine, pancreas, retina, blood, skin, nerve cells, female egg cell and sperm cell. However, a serious concomitant problem of iPS continues to be a high risk of developing cancerous cells after transplantation.

The world’s first surgery using a multifunctional artificial iPS cells was held in Japan in 2014. 70-year-old patient with severe retinal disease is age-related macular degeneration (macular degeneration) — took skin cells, which have grown artificial stem cells iPS. Of them were grown cells of the retinal pigment epithelium of the retina, which was implanted during the surgery.
