On Piskarevsky memorial cemetery in St. Petersburg the monument to the Motherland on Wednesday opened a memorial plaque to the defenders of besieged Leningrad-natives of Karachay-Cherkessia, reported RIA Novosti the representative of the press service of the head region.

According to him, after the inauguration, the memory plate has been moved to memory lane. There she became the 101st from the countries and Russian regions, which have immortalized the names of their Heroes — defenders of besieged Leningrad.

«I am absolutely sure, this is a landmark event that will forever remain in the annals of relations between St. Petersburg and Karachay-Cherkess Republic. And, of course, we show the younger generation how strong was the feat of the senior generation, which liberated our country from the Nazis,» — said, speaking at the opening ceremony, the head of KCHR Rashid Temrezov.

He thanked the Governor of St. Petersburg for the support of initiatives from community members and the government of KCHR, to perpetuate the names of hundreds of defenders of the city on the Neva river — the natives of Karachay-Cherkessia.
