The Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill said that the Russian Orthodox Church today for the first time in the history of «absolutely free from any political influence», and with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he develops a friendly dialogue.

The Patriarch on Wednesday met in the building of the St. Petersburg Metropolia in the Alexander Nevsky monastery with the Archbishop of Turku and Finland Tario Luoma and the delegation of the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran Church.

«I’d like to tell you about a very important topic, which concerns us. Unfortunately, the Western media is very politicized and almost agreed to the fact that the Patriarch is not free and acts according to what he says Putin. I would like to say that Patriarch Kirill is now free as no one in the Russian Church was not free. And I don’t know if other primates of Orthodox churches,» the Patriarch said.

He stressed that «the Russian Church absolutely free from any political influence in the country, it is in equal dialogue with the government, and this is the first time in history».

«And so we never agree with the power of any of their actions – whether it concerns the internal life or external activities. We are the Cathedral at meetings of the Synod is determined by its line. The Patriarch also expressed the hope that «this autonomy of the Church will continue on.»
