The Americas called on Venezuela to accept international assistance

From the 11 States of America on Tuesday issued a special Declaration, signed in Quito, urging Venezuelan authorities to accept international assistance to resolve the humanitarian crisis in the country and assistance to compatriots living there.

The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Ecuador has published the text of the Declaration signed, including USA, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru. «States have agreed on mutual cooperation to help their compatriots (in Venezuela — ed.) and I ask the government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to take the cooperation of the governments of the region and international organizations to deal with the situation in their respective communities, based in Venezuela,» the statement reads.

Also the signers of the Declaration of state asked Venezuelan authorities to take appropriate measures to ensure that Venezuelan migrants of necessary documents, including national identity cards and passports, birth certificates, marriage and so on to facilitate their stay abroad. The signatories to the Declaration agreed to temporarily take from Venezuelan citizens, even expired documents for migration purposes.

In early may the international organization for migration said that over the years 2015-2017 the number of migrants from Venezuela, which is undergoing financial and economic crisis has increased more than 10 times. If in 2015 their number was estimated at 89 thousand people, by the end of 2017, it was already 900 thousand.

The total number of Venezuelans seeking refuge around the world during this period increased from 700 thousand to 1.5 million people. The situation in Venezuela have become severe due to shortages, galloping inflation and falling government revenues due to lower oil prices.
