The Governor of the Penza region Ivan Belozertsev on Thursday proposed to develop a program of targeted training of Muslim clerics, said the regional government.

According to the press service, Thursday at the meeting of the Council for cooperation with Muslim religious and social associations of the region, the Chairman of the spiritual administration of Muslims of the Penza region, Abubakar junkin said about the acute shortage of young skilled workers, as many imams have reached old age.

«Rural areas in our region are experiencing a shortage in doctors and teachers – we have created a program to consolidate the village young professionals, which is allowed to almost close this gap. If there is an acute shortage of qualified spiritual mentors, you need to create a similar programme for the training of the clergy,» Belozertseva quoted by his press service.

«Young people need to help with learning in Islamic higher education institution, an agreement that after graduation they will work in the Penza region», — said the Governor.

The head of the region instructed the regional Department of internal policy to address this issue within a month and present him with the options. In particular, he proposed to discuss this issue with the leadership of the Russian Islamic Institute in Kazan, which is the country’s first Islamic higher professional educational institution.

Belozertsev noted that the increased extremist manifestations that have been observed in recent years in many countries, the education system in the spirit of traditional Islam becomes the Penza region is particularly significant.

«A lot of residents of the Penza region profess Islam, it is necessary that young people were inculcated with traditional values. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to the negative impact of society and the Internet on them is a real attack from radical entities. the Task of adults – teachers, authorities, spiritual leaders – to protect our youth from the influence of extremists,» — said the Governor.
