The President of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said at the beginning of his two-day visit to Kosovo and Metohija on Saturday, arrived in the region to talk about peace, stability and economic development.

Their stay in the region, Vucic began with a visit to the «Centre of environment and development of sport» and the red cross centre in the municipality of Zubin Potok, as well as the inspection of hydroelectric dams «Gazivode», where Kosovo Albanian authorities initially forbade him access, and on the night of Saturday, under pressure from the EU and the USA, allowed.

«I came primarily to talk about our idea to support long-term peace, stability and try for the future to make the best relations of the Serbs and the Albanians. At the same time, I came to each place to talk about big investment plans and programmes, a great opportunity for what will be a business forum in Lesaka,» said Vucic.

According to him, in recent years Belgrade has invested about two million euros in infrastructure, sports and environmental center, facilities, and hydroelectric dam, the largest accumulation lakes in Kosovo with an area of about 12 square kilometers. The Serbian President also announced plans to build near the lake recreational centre and a fish farm and in the nearby village of Zubin Potok – new water pipes and the enterprise for processing of agricultural products.

It is then expected that Vucic will visit the farm of a local Serbian family in the village of Ibarska-Pastene, agricultural College in the village of Leshak and there will take part in the closing of the business forum. To complete the presidential program in Kosovo on Saturday will be later in the evening a meeting with the political representatives of the local Serbs in the town of Zvecan.

The Chairman of the Parliament of the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo Kadri Veseli said on Thursday that the resolution of the Kosovo Albanian authorities to travel to the region, Vucic may be withdrawn, if Pristina considers it a «threat to stability». The statement Veseli responded to the interior Minister and foreign Minister of Serbia Nebojsa Stefanovic and Ivica Dacic, who demanded that the Kosovo Albanian authorities not to make provocations during the visit and warned Pristina, «not to play with fire.» Stefanovic promised to provide security for Vucic on the trip, but did not disclose the efforts of Serbian authorities to intervene. Before he confirmed the order of the President on the termination of communication power structures of Serbia with the police of the breakaway Republic of Kosovo and the troops under the aegis of NATO in relation to the trip.

Kosovo Albanian structures in Pristina in February 2008 unilaterally declared independence from Serbia. The Serbian authorities under pressure from Brussels and the region of convergence with the European Union, as well as for the sake of ease of life in the region, Serbian citizens in 2011 were forced to start negotiations on the normalization of relations with Kosovo Albanians with the mediation of the EU. The largest agreements are the Brussels agreement on principles governing the normalization of relations of Belgrade and Pristina signed in April 2013, and the agreement on the Community of Serb communities, signed by the parties in August 2015. This latest Brussels time to execute these agreements on August 4, was not observed Pristina, which led to increased tension in Kosovo.
