The Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos III called on the faithful of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in a «special test» not to lose hope and hold on to their Primate – Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine Onuphrius, said on Monday the website of the UOC.

The delegation of Ukrainian pilgrims, headed by Metropolitan of Zaporozhye and Melitopol Luke, at the end of last week met in Jerusalem with Patriarch Theophilos. According to the Primate, which are listed on the website of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the Orthodox people today are subjected to special tests, but nevertheless should not lose hope.

«Peace and the restoration of unity will come only through the Church and our prayer. An example of this is the Jerusalem Church, which for many centuries is undoubtedly a wonder. Gone great Empire, but the Church lives. We pray for our brother, his Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry and the long-suffering people of Ukraine», — said the Patriarch.

In his view, what is happening in the world globalization has one of its main goals the destruction of the Orthodox Church.

«The tentacles of globalization are trying to penetrate in the Church body, to destroy it. It occurs worldwide, including in Ukraine. The intervention of politicians in the Affairs of the Church, one Church in the Affairs of another under the influence of politicians, are signs of such a process. Keep their Primate, not only to find solace in his prayers, but be his helpers and Somaliweyn, to imitate him in firmness of faith,» said Patriarch Theophilos.

On Friday, the Ecumenical Patriarchate announced that «in preparation for the granting of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine» was appointed its Exarch in Kyiv. This decision strongly condemned the Moscow Patriarchate, calling it an intrusion on the canonical territory of other local churches. The Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion said that the Moscow Patriarchate will break Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople in the event of the giving them the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church.Jerusalem Patriarch urged Ukrainians to hold on to their Primate© RIA Novosti / Vitaly Policypro Autocephalous
