Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev congratulated the chief Rabbi of Russia Berel Lazar and Adolf Shaevich on Rosh ha-Shana, noting the contribution of Jewish communities to the development of interethnic and interfaith dialogue in the country, the telegram published Monday on the website of the Cabinet.

Rosh Hashanah — the Jewish new year. In 2018 is celebrated from 9 to 11 September.

«Please accept my heartfelt congratulations on one of the major Jewish holidays – Rosh Hashanah. It symbolizes the beginning of a new year, filled with bright feelings and joyful expectations. On this day, believers traditionally sum up the results of the traversed path, thinking about the future, pray for peace, prosperity and health of their relatives», — the telegram says.

The Prime Minister noted that today the Jewish community plays an important role in the public life of the country, contributes to the development of interethnic and interfaith dialogue, and makes a significant contribution to combating xenophobia. Furthermore, the community conducts a lot of outreach and reviving traditional religious education, he added.

«I am confident that Your future efforts will be aimed at maintaining harmony in the society, and the unique traditions of the Jewish people will be carefully preserved and passed from generation to generation. I wish You and all followers of Judaism happy new year, success and prosperity», — concluded Medvedev.
