Indigenous and small peoples of the North and Siberia must keep the faith, traditions and culture, said on Monday the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill during a visit to Svyato-Vvedensky Church of the city of Dudinka in Krasnoyarsk region.

«You are asked to keep the Orthodox faith and themselves. You are very precious for the whole of Russia, should be sturdy and strong, to procreate, to expand their family because the presence of Russia’s indigenous peoples in the places where they have always lived, is a huge and cultural heritage of our people,» he said.

Addressing the workers of the port of Dudinka, the Primate of the Russian Church wished to keep the love of family. «Keep love among yourselves, remember the strongest feeling that brings people together is love. When love is destroyed, is destroyed, and human interaction. It is very important that the father and mother, husband and wife were able to limit their desires for the good of the whole family. Communication in the family always involve some kind of concession, a little sacrifice. Take care of your family, this is your hearth, where you warm up,» said the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia.

He also urged the youth living in the North, to take care of your health. «God forbid, to difficult climatic conditions pushed you to abuse alcoholic beverages or everything that destroys human health. To live in the North can only be one who is healthy and strong, so a healthy lifestyle of northerners is the key to your well-being and prosperity to your families, and in some sense, the key to prosperity of the North of Russia», — said the Patriarch.

In the end, the children of indigenous peoples of the North gave to the Patriarch a small basket with cloudberries and cranberries. «My favorite berry. When I was little, loved to go for cloudberries, and then mom cooked jam» — he shared his memories, gratefully accepting the gift.

On Tuesday 11 September, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church will perform the rite of consecration of the temple in honor of the new martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church.
