Chairman of the state Duma Vyacheslav Volodin stated that it supported the legislative initiative of the refusal of the deputies and senators from the pension preferences and hopes that this idea will find support from other parliamentarians.

Previously, «United Russia» in the Duma introduced amendments providing for the refusal of the deputies and senators from pension benefits.

Asked by reporters about whether he personally supports this initiative, Volodin answered in the affirmative. «This bill is clearly, I think, my colleagues and I will support it. There is given a precise formulation, which assumes that deputies have the right to refuse allowances,» said Volodin.

«Clarification might be needed for those first one decision, then begins to reflect, and whether he did. Once is enough to weigh to make a decision. And this right of deputies should be», — said the speaker of the state Duma, speaking about the content of the bill.

He stressed that the decisions that are relevant personally to the MPs, parliamentarians are the «most easy», but on solutions that are relevant to the citizens of the Russian Federation, the state Duma will work meticulously.

The state Duma in July passed in the first reading a government bill suggesting a gradual increase in age of retirement to 65 years for men and 63 years for women. Russian President Vladimir Putin on 29 August made a half-hour address to the Russians, which stated that the main objective of the pension changes — the stability and sustainability of the pension system. According to him, to postpone change any longer, it’s irresponsible, and hesitation in this matter may endanger the stability and security of the Russian Federation. The President stressed that the decision on pensions is a difficult, but necessary, urged Russians to be sensitive to future innovations.

Meanwhile, Putin proposed a number of measures that will allow mitigate their decisions. In particular, according to him, the age of retirement for women in Russia must be 60 years instead of the government 63, 65 for men. Other plans include a large mother should have the right of early retirement, the terms of pensions for the indigenous peoples of the North should be retained, unemployment benefits for those approaching retirement age is increased, and for the dismissal before retirement, you need to enter administrative and even criminal liability. Proposals to change the pension system was designed as amendments to the law submitted by the President for consideration in the state Duma on 6 September, the same day the «United Russia» also brought in GD the first set of amendments.

Now the standard age of retirement in Russia is 60 and 55 years for men and women respectively prescribed by law the retirement age established in the 1930-ies. The question of raising the retirement age has been discussed for quite some time. The need for this is caused by growing life expectancy and the inability to provide a decent pension in circumstances when the number of employees in the country decreases, while the number of pensioners, by contrast, is growing. Today, in most countries the retirement age is 60-65 years.
