French singer of Algerian origin Rachid Taha died in the night on Wednesday at the age of 59, according to the newspaper Parisien.

Reportedly, the musician passed away in her sleep after a heart attack at his home in Paris. On 18 September the singer was about to turn 60 years old.

Rachid Taha — known figure in French rock music of the 1980s. the Newspaper notes that the founder of the group Carte de Séjour («residence permit») was able to achieve a harmonious combination between the Algerian culture and the Anglo-Saxon rock.

After leaving the band Taha has recorded numerous albums, which combined electronic and Oriental music. According to the newspaper, the musician on the eve of the finished work on a new album, due out in early 2019 under the label of Believe.

Rachid Taha was born in the Algerian city of Oran, when the future musician was 10 years old, his parents emigrated to France. In the early ‘ 80s, gathered a group Carte de Sejour, which lasted until the end of the decade. Two years later, Taha released his first solo album Barbes, named for the famous immigrant neighborhood in Paris. The last solo album came out in 2013. During his solo career the musician has collaborated not only with the stars of the popular Arabic music, but the famous British musician and composer Brian Eno, which in the framework of his tour were including in Russia.
