Kirovskiy district court of Rostov-on-don on Wednesday sentenced the former state Duma Deputy Vladimir Bessonov to three years in a penal colony for beating of police officers, the correspondent of RIA Novosti news from the courtroom.

The court also ruled in favor of the victim of Anton Grachev 11 416 thousand rubles. The money will be transferred at the expense of the Federal budget in connection with the failure to find the whereabouts of the defendant. The prosecution asked for Bessonova three and a half years in a General regime colony, the defenders required to close the criminal case and acquit the former servant of the people.

The incident that gave rise to the criminal case, occurred nearly seven years ago: according to investigators, in December 2011 Bessonov organized in Rostov-on-don inconsistent rally with more than 100 participants, and the requirement of police to stop the action member and the other organizers refused.

According to investigators, after the attempts of the police to independently disable sound equipment meeting participants, including Bessonova, gave them a fight.

Victims of the case found two police officers. The maximum punishment under article «violence against a representative of authorities» — 10 years of imprisonment.

Bessonov himself has repeatedly denied the accusations and said he intends to seek criminal prosecution of police officers who, in his opinion, have no jurisdiction.

The criminal case was transferred to the Kirovskiy district court in 2015, due to the absences of the defendant, the court soon changed the measure of restraint Bessonova from recognizance not to leave on arrest and declared him wanted.

The proceedings were suspended, and the beginning of December 2017 at the request of the Prosecutor the court resumed the proceedings, having decided to consider the materials in absentia.
