Russia is ready to continue to look acceptable for the Russian and Japanese peoples interchanges in solving the problem of a peace Treaty, said to RIA Novosti, Russian Ambassador to Japan Mikhail Galuzin.

«We are, and it is said the President (Russian Federation), set up to seek solutions that would satisfy both us and Japanese side, and which would be accepted by the peoples of Russia and Japan. This is the main summary of the discussion of the problem of a peace Treaty, despite the fact that, of course, we are ready to develop further with Japan in a mutually acceptable format of cooperation in the area of the Islands (South Kuril Islands Habomai, Iturup, Kunashir and Shikotan, claimed by the Japanese side),» said Galuzin in the fields of the Eastern economic forum.

Agreement to discuss the possibility of joint economic activities on southern Kuriles was reached at the Russian-Japanese summit during his visit to Japan President of Russia Vladimir Putin in December 2016. In February 2017 under the foreign Ministry of Japan established the Council for mutual economic activities, which was headed by the head of Department. In June and October last year it had a travel group of more than 50 representatives of governmental and business circles of Japan to the Kuril Islands, to study the prospects of the projects. According to the agreement, these activities shall not violate the legal positions of both countries. The implementation of joint projects being considered in areas such as aquaculture, greenhouse agriculture, tourism, wind energy and recycling of waste.

Japan, claiming the Islands of Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and Habomai, hopes to contribute to solving territorial problems with Russia through the development of economic relations between the two countries. The return of the four Islands of Tokyo earlier made it a condition of signing a peace Treaty with Russia, which after the Second world war and was not signed. The position of Moscow consists that southern Kuriles became part of the Soviet Union at the end of the Second world war and the Russian sovereignty over them with appropriate international legal design, not subject to doubt.
