The Synod of the Belarusian Orthodox Church (in the ROC) condemned anticanonically the intervention of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople in the internal Affairs of the Russian Orthodox Church in Ukraine and adopted a separate statement on the matter.

«Unanimously to support the position of his Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill and the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church expressed in the official statement dated September 8, 2018, in connection with the appointment of two bishops of the Patriarchate of Constantinople — Archbishop Daniel and Pamphylian Bishop Ilarion of Edmonton — «Exarch» of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Kyiv city», — reads the statement of the Synod of the BOC, published on the website of the Moscow Patriarchate.

The hierarchs of the Synod of the Belarusian Church protested against this move of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, because he «is an aggressive intervention by one local Church in the internal Affairs of another local Church aimed at undermining the foundations of the inter-Orthodox peace and unity».

«Call the clergy and flock of the Belarusian Exarchate to offer ardent prayers to the Lord for a speedy healing and dealing with the current situation of the admonition and repentance of those who provoke disorder and ecclesiastical schism, and the welfare of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the establishment of peace in the Ukrainian land», — reads the statement.

In addition, the Synod of the BOC, expressed his full support to the Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine Onuphrius and the entire congregation of the UOC.

The Synod also decided «to testify to the inseparable spiritual unity of the Orthodox Christians of the fraternal peoples of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine, the children of the Russian Orthodox Church, containing its care of historical Rus, spiritually born in the baptismal font of Kiev».

Last Friday, the Patriarchate of Constantinople said that «in preparation for the granting of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine» was appointed its Exarch in Kyiv. This decision strongly condemned the Moscow Patriarchate, calling it an intrusion on the canonical territory of other local churches. The Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion said that the Moscow Patriarchate will break Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople in the event of the giving them the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church.

The Deputy head of the Department for external Church relations (DECR) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich has proposed to convene a Council of the primates of the local Orthodox churches after the decision of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople for autocephaly.
