Russia will continue to work to introduce a visa-free regime between Sakhalin and Hokkaido, said to RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Eastern economic forum, Russian Ambassador to Japan Mikhail Galuzin.

«We will continue to work to enter the free border movement between Sakhalin and Hokkaido. The dialogue continues on this subject,» said Galuzin.

According to him, refers to visa-free traffic between Sakhalin and Hokkaido. «How it will look and in what format – is the subject of dialogue, we still don’t know yet. But our goal is this – to negotiate with Japan on mutually acceptable parameters of such a free boundary movement,» he added.

As pointed out by the Ambassador, we are talking about the need for harmonization. «As in any other negotiation process, of course, the parties positions do not always coincide. For this and there are negotiations to come to some common denominator, what we are doing now», he added.
