The CPS will tighten the requirements for disposal of biological waste, said the Minister Anna Popova as part of the session «Genetic technology: the benefits for the economy or a threat to life» on the WEF.

«We have prepared changes in our sanitary regulations that should tighten the requirements for waste management and to use the biological material only for the purpose for which he came. It is written in a General clinical lab — «research on cholesterol», well, that’s just for cholesterol. The rest of the biological material, which came, it must be disposed of,» — said Popov.

She noted that the need to protect the human genome and to protect the person from the processes that occur when conducting research to avoid secondary risks.

«We need a balanced approach to what research we conduct, we need to do the registry, that is for sure. We need to be more carefully and, obviously, to change the regulation, in some parts of regulations in terms of safety during research and working with modified organisms, using technologies that are close to the synthetic,» — said Popov.

She noted that these technologies now can be a risk for a large number of people, if they are to be used as a biological weapon.

«It’s real, and it is also a topic that should be discussed today», — she noted.
