The electoral Commission of the Samara region approved the results of elections of the head region and recognized them as the winner the incumbent Governor Dmitry Azarov, the correspondent of RIA Novosti.

«The election Commission decided to accept the early elections of the Governor of the Samara region valid, to admit Azarov Dmitry Igorevich… their winner,» said the Chairman of the electoral Commission of the region Vadim Mikheev at the meeting on Wednesday.

Early elections of the Governor of the Samara region held in a single voting day on 9 September. Azarov representing the «United Russia» typed on elections of the head region 72,63% of the vote. The first Secretary Samara obkoma the Communist party, Vice-speaker of the regional Parliament Alexey Leskin has received 9,99%, the Deputy Chairman of the Samara regional Duma Alexander Stepanov (LDPR) to 5.73%, Vitaly Kirsanov («Communists of Russia») is 4.03%, the leader of regional branch «Fair Russia» the Deputy of regional Parliament Mikhail Maryakhin — 2,62%, Galina Baranova (Russian party of pensioners for social justice) — 2,56%.

In September 2017, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on early termination of powers of the head of region Nikolay Merkushkin, who has written the application at own will. The acting Governor was Azarov, who in 2014 was a member of the Federation Council from the region.
