The Deputy head of the Department for external Church relations (DECR) of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich proposes to convene a Council of the primates of the local Orthodox churches after the decision of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople on the preparation of the Autocephalous Church in Ukraine.

«I think that now, at global level, the time to the primates gathered at the Cathedral, for snakes, the meeting has taken decisions on these matters, because very hard times are coming. Moreover, these days we create for ourselves, or rather, not we, but some of our brothers,» he said. in an interview, the text of which is published on the website of the UOC.

He noted that «before the Church of Constantinople was huge and now — 2,5 thousand Greeks live in Constantinople, a couple of hundred throughout Turkey». «But, as you can see, there are, I would say, weakness in the Patriarchate of Constantinople, which he now demonstrates. If he wanted to solve the issue of the split — please let’s talk, to communicate. But you can’t make it clumsy: solving the small question of the Ukrainian division, to give rise to great problems in all of universal Orthodoxy. This is wrong,» — said the Belarusian.

He also called on Orthodox Christians to intensify prayers for the patriarchs Bartholomew and Kirill.

«I think now it is necessary to multiply prayers for Patriarch Bartholomew and Patriarch Kirill that the Lord has umodel them and gave them to Solomon the wisdom to solve the problems that we have. If they solve these problems, it will go down in history as the greatest of the patriarchs. If this is not solved and Patriarch Bartholomew will reach the end, it does not do honor neither to him nor to us», — concluded the Deputy head of the DECR.

Last Friday, the Patriarchate of Constantinople said that «in preparation for the granting of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine» was appointed its Exarch in Kyiv. This decision strongly condemned the Moscow Patriarchate, calling it an intrusion on the canonical territory of other local churches. The Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion said that the Moscow Patriarchate will break Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople in the event of the giving them the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church.
