The pursuit of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine leads to even greater divisiveness in this country, said the representative of the Department for humanitarian cooperation and human rights MFA of Russia Daria Mosina OSCE meeting on human rights in Warsaw on Thursday.

«The statements of authorities on autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the intention to which she of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church never claimed, lead to a further split of the society», — said Mosin.

The overall situation of religious freedom in Ukraine is also a serious concern of the Russian delegation. «Most alarming is the situation in Ukraine. Kiev authorities openly condone the seizure of the ultra-right churches of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church, violence against its clergy and faithful,» said the spokesman.

She also noted that the current Ukrainian authorities «are trying to impose restrictions on the activities of this largest denomination of Ukraine, to divide the Church community.»

According to the Russian representative, the request of the Council of foreign Ministers of the OSCE in Basel in 2014 on the preparation of individual declarations on combating intolerance and discrimination against Christians and Muslims should be a priority at the upcoming Council of foreign Ministers in Milan. «We urge the Italian presidency to do everything possible in order to fulfil the orders,» she said.

Last Friday, the Patriarchate of Constantinople said that «in preparation for the granting of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine» was appointed its Exarch in Kyiv. This decision strongly condemned the Moscow Patriarchate, calling it an intrusion on the canonical territory of other local churches. The Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion said that the Moscow Patriarchate will break Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople in the event of the giving them the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church.
