Russia proceeds from the understanding that in the peace Treaty Russia and Japan will be spelled out the need to address other contentious issues, including territorial, in the framework of further negotiations, said the Russian Ambassador in Tokyo, Mikhail Galuzin.

«The President of Russia Vladimir Putin in his speech at the plenary session of the Eastern economic forum has proposed the conclusion between Russia and Japan peace Treaty without any preconditions, with the understanding that this peace Treaty will stipulate that all the issues that are still not fully resolved between the two countries, will be subject to further discussion, further cheep mutually acceptable solutions. We are talking in particular about the issue of border demarcation, territorial problem,» he said in an interview to television channel RT.

Answering the question of whether the US military presence in Japan on the Treaty, the Ambassador noted that «the Russian side, of course, does not purport to dictate to any sovereign country, any sovereign state, as a sovereign state should build its policy in the field of security.»

«Japan is our neighbor, is a sovereign state that chooses how to ensure the safety of its territory, its citizens, and we for such a choice are in any case with respect. Another thing is that we can have their opinion about what consequences this choice has for our safety. That is what we have every right,» added the diplomat.
