The US announced sanctions against the project of the pipeline «Nord stream — 2» cause of Russia’s concerns, said Minister of energy Alexander Novak after talks with his us counterpart Rick Perry.

«We are concerned about the position, and those statements that are made about the possibility of imposing sanctions on absolutely competitive project in which interested European consumers,» — said the Russian Minister.

Novak also noted that in European countries, increasing gas consumption and falling domestic production of natural gas, and the pipeline is the most reliable and affordable way to ensure energy consumers and often the case in Europe peak.

«The development of such infrastructure in the first place aimed at the protection of consumers», — concluded the Minister of energy.

«Nord stream — 2»

The project «Northern stream — 2» involves the construction of two pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas off the coast of Russia through the Baltic sea to Germany.

The new pipeline is planned to be built next to the existing «Northern stream». It will pass through the territorial sea or the exclusive economic zone of the countries located along the shores of the Baltic sea — Russia, Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany.
