US sanctions against Russia are always on the agenda, Washington was concerned that in case of realization of the project «Northern stream-2» European countries will have a limited source of energy, said U.S. energy Secretary Rick Perry.

«We understand the challenges facing us, but we have the intention to talk to each other. It is very important that there is a hope that Russia and the United States will be able to identify common interests and find ways to move forward,» Perry told reporters after his visit to Moscow.

«Russia and the United States understand their role as leaders in the energy market, and we respect each other. We have a set of interests and one of them is the stability of the energy market. It is clear that we are competitors, but we recognize that due to this rivalry we can become stronger,» added Perry.

According to Perry, «the possibility of imposing sanctions against Russia remains». «The question is, what will be in the interests of European countries and the EU, and this interest is to have different energy sources. The project «Northern stream-2″ there are some points that bother us. We are concerned that 2/3 of the European Union will depend on one source of energy, it is not competitive. This is of concern to us, and our partners in Europe is the presence of restricted sources of energy. Sanctions always remain on the agenda. But the main thing is the competitiveness of the market and the expectation that it will be good neighborly relations», — concluded Perry.
