The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko denies the possibility of a default in 2019, despite peak payments on public debt, which have for the next year.

Poroshenko reminded that Ukraine’s state debt from 2007 to 2010 increased by $ 26 billion, and from 2010 to 2014 was up by almost 20 billion. In his opinion, if not his capacity in those years, Ukraine could refuse from external borrowings.

«I want to emphasize how not wait, when they predicted the default of Ukraine in 2014-2015, when we had barely 5 billion of foreign exchange reserves, and can not wait any destabilization now,» – said Poroshenko during the annual YES conference (forum international organization «Yalta European strategy») on Friday.

In early September, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groisman stated that the requirements of the International monetary Fund (IMF) to raise gas prices for the population — a step that the government has to go in order to ensure the payment of external debts, and the failure of such a step threatens financial disaster and default.

The IMF mission is working in Kiev, 6-19 September. The Fund’s representatives to discuss with the authorities recent economic developments, as well as further cooperation, including financial assistance from the IMF to maintain macroeconomic stability and sustainable economic growth of Ukraine.
