The Kremlin watching the extraordinary session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow, which discusses the controversy that arose with the Patriarchate of Constantinople concerning the possible autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church, but the state can not interfere in Church Affairs, told reporters on Friday, the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.

«Of course, the Kremlin watching this event. Of course, the alarming information that comes about, say, possible solutions to the attitude of the Church in Ukraine, of course, a cause for concern. But however, the questions of inter-Church dialogue, it’s a Church, surely, the state can not interfere in them. For Moscow and the entire Orthodox world only the preferred scenario is preservation of the unity of the Orthodox world», — said Peskov.

Earlier, the Patriarchate of Constantinople said that «in preparation for the granting of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine» was appointed its Exarch in Kyiv. This decision strongly condemned the Moscow Patriarchate, calling it an intrusion on the canonical territory of other local churches. The Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion said that the Moscow Patriarchate will break Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople in the event of the giving them the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church.
