The Polish Orthodox Church has urged «not to rush» with the granting of autocephaly churches in Ukraine, in order not to deepen the rift in the country, according to the website of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

«For granting autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church requires the consent of all the local churches, and a hasty decision could deepen the rift,» gave the Orthodox Church the position of the Polish Church.

At the same time on the website of the UOC contains a link to a letter from the Secretary of the Chancellery of the Polish Orthodox Church by Jerzy Doroshkevich enrolled in one of the Russian media.

Doroshkevich refers to excerpts from the minutes of the meetings of the Council of bishops of the Polish Church from 9 may 2018, and notes that autocephaly can be granted only after consultation with all the local churches. Thus hasty action, the letter said, can deepen the split in Ukraine, existing dissident community in this country needs to repent and return to the Orthodox Church.

Earlier, the Patriarchate of Constantinople said that «in preparation for the granting of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine» was appointed its Exarch in Kyiv. This decision strongly condemned the Moscow Patriarchate, calling it an intrusion on the canonical territory of other local churches. The Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion said that the Moscow Patriarchate will break Eucharistic communion with the Patriarchate of Constantinople in the event of the giving them the autocephaly of the Ukrainian Church.
