Russia was forced to strengthen security measures in the sea of Azov in response to terrorist and piracy threats emanating from the Ukrainian authorities, said the Deputy of the state Duma of the Russian Federation of the Crimea region Michael Sheremet.

The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in an interview to Washington Post said that Russia is blocking the visits of ships in the sea of Azov with the aim of «occupation.» According to him, Ukraine has absolutely clear the legal status of the Azov sea, why Russia «has no right to attack or to stop ships carrying goods and passengers from two important ports of Ukraine — Mariupol and Berdyansk».

«The strengthening of security measures in the sea of Azov – is a necessary measure in response to terrorist and piracy threats emanating from the Ukrainian authorities. Russia had to protect its fishermen, civilians, including ships calling at the sea of Azov, unpredictable and aggressive policy of the Ukrainian authorities, willing to make capture of the ships and the arrest of citizens, akin to Somali pirates as it was with the Crimean seiner «Nord», — told RIA Novosti Sheremet.

According to him, the crews of ships passing through the Kerch Strait, are sensitive to regular inspections. No breaches of international Maritime law, the Russian side is not allowed.

«No harm to vessels, inspect, does not apply. Disturbances and complaints from any foreign ship did not arrive. The commanders and crews of the ships that enters the sea of Azov, understand that all is done solely for security purposes», — said Sheremet.

Ukrainian border guards detained on March 25 Crimean ship «Nord» under the flag of Russia in the Azov sea with 10 crew members. All of them are citizens of Russia, but Kyiv considers them to be Ukrainian citizens. Two members of the crew managed to return to the Crimea via Belarus, seven was removed from the flight to Minsk. The ship’s captain is charged with «violation of the order of entry in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine and departure from it with the purpose of causing harm to the interests of the state», to it threatens till five years of imprisonment. In the state Duma responded to the statement Poroshenko about the «occupation» of the sea of Azov© Vitaly Podictionary and very dangerous
