Russian rocket «Soyuz-ST» with the upper stage «Fregat-M» twice before the end of the year will start with the European Kourou in French Guiana, told RIA Novosti source in the space industry.

«A large group of specialists NPO im. Lavochkin launched from the Kourou launch pad to test the upper stage «Fregat-M», which will be used in the launch of the European meteorological satellite MetOp-C. Calculations of the Samara space-Rocket center «Progress» Center for exploitation of ground space infrastructure will arrive to Kourou in mid-October for testing and assembling the rocket «Soyuz-ST» and training ground equipment for the upcoming launch. The launch is scheduled for November 7,» said the source.

Until the end of the year from Kourou will start another «Union» — on December 14, scheduled launch of the rocket «Soyuz-ST» with the upper stage «Fregat-MT» and a cluster of two satellites — Italian spacecraft for detailed radar sensing CSG-1 and the European space telescope to search for exoplanets, CHEOPS.

The European MetOp metasystem created since 2006, when it launched the first satellite system MetOp-a MetOp-B launched in 2012. The launches of spacecraft MetOp-A and MetOp-B was launched from Baikonur cosmodrome rocket «Soyuz-2.1 a». With the launch of the third satellite system is fully deployed. MetOp is the first European meteorological system based on «polar» satellites with orbits that pass over the poles of the planet at the height of 812-818 km, that allows to receive operational information from the North and South poles, called the «weather kitchen». Before the creation of the MetOp system the Europeans had to operate only the weather satellites located in geostationary orbit where the polar regions are viewed bad.
